In a land that receives thousands of visitors monthly attracted by the smell and taste of coffee, Quindío, is developing a new tourist attraction: traveling landscapes looking for birds, amphibians and reptiles for photo opportunities.
All under the environmental care and with a protocol developed by biologists and graduates in environmental education Andrea Beltrán and Alejandro Grajales (husband and wife), in order to avoid collateral damage to the environment.
Andrea has just received the Citi Micro-entrepreneur of the Year prize for leading a venture that promotes and positions Colombia as one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world.
The Birding and Herping tourism agency is considered the first in the country specializing in the observation of amphibians and reptiles. The project began in 2015 with the purpose of promoting nature tourism in the coffee department.
“Coincidentally, our department is a national reference in the field of tourism, but has mainly focused on theme parks and coffee experiences. We wanted to start offering different nature options in the department, specializing in birds, amphibians/reptiles and nature photography, ”says Andrea.
